Intense Pulsed Light
Our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments offer stellar results in diminishing age spots, reducing the redness associated with rosacea, and minimizing broken blood vessels. IPL uses light energy to accurately target brown spots, sun damage, broken capillaries, melasma, and rosacea. It’s a non-invasive way to reduce hyperpigmentation (brown spots) and minimize redness, giving you a more vibrant, younger-looking appearance.

The Treatment
Appointment Preparation
-
Please remember you need to apply numbing cream to a clean face 1 hour before your appointment. You can pick up the numbing cream anytime before your appointment to apply at home, or you can apply it at the spa.
-
Avoid sun exposure (apply sunscreen daily and do not tan at all – including self-tanner) for 4 to 6 weeks before and after treatments.
-
Do not use any retinol products (or products containing tretinoin) or exfoliants on the area to be treated for one week.
-
Avoid Accutane (or isotretinoin products) for 6 months before your treatment.
-
Please let us know if you have a history of hyperpigmentation.
-
Please let us know if you have a history of fever blisters. We can provide you with a prescription for prophylactic antiviral therapy to start on the day of the treatment to prevent a flare-up of cold sores.
-
You must notify us if you have had any cosmetic tattooing on or near the area to be treated.
-
Photosensitizing medications including doxycycline and minocycline should be discontinued three days before the treatment.
At Your Appointment
Appointments vary in length depending on the areas treated, typically lasting 30 to 60 minutes. Patients must apply numbing cream one hour in advance.
The Results
Immediately after your IPL treatment, sun damage and other skin irregularities will come to the surface as your skin begins to heal. IPL results can typically be enjoyed for years if patients protect their skin from the sun. Melasma and rosacea patients often choose to repeat the treatment annually for continued control of these skin issues. Anticipate a social “down-time” of 2-5 days before any redness, swelling and sloughing of the sunspots has subsided.
