Appointment Preparation

  • Schedule your Sculptra® appointment at least 2-3 weeks prior to a special event that you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Bruising and swelling may be apparent during that time period.

  • Do not plan any dental procedures 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after your treatment.

  • Avoid wearing makeup to your appointment.

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours as they can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications, if possible for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood-thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.

  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore, or infection.

  • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy.

Your Appointment

The appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. Lidocaine makes the injectable easily tolerated. After the procedure, you will follow the 5-5-5- rule. (Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.)

The Results

Expected changes after Sculptra® include gradual and natural volumizing in the areas of injection. The skin over the areas of injection can improve fine lines, and may appear thicker and healthier (known as the Sculptra® “glow”.) Results are gradual, natural and long-lasting, typically more than two years.
