Laser Vein Removal

Our vascular laser is used to treat a broad range of vessels, from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins. This light-based laser will quickly, safely, and effectively remove or lighten the appearance of vascular lesions by coagulation of the vessels. Cutera Xeo leg vein therapy works by sending brief pulses of light to each varicose and spider vein. The energy destroys the blood vessel, which is then reabsorbed by the body, and the blood flow is redirected to veins deeper below the surface of your skin.

Areas Treated

  • Smaller blood vessels located on the face or body

The Treatment

Appointment Preparation

  • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.

  • Avoid sun exposure (apply sunscreen daily and do not tan at all – including self-tanner) for 4 weeks before and after treatments.

  • Some medications or supplements may increase the risk of bruising. Consult with your physician.

  • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 5-7 days before treatment (waxing, depilatories, retinoids, etc.).

  • Please let us know if you have a history of fever blisters. We can provide you with a prescription for prophylactic antiviral therapy to start on the day of the treatment to prevent a flare-up of cold sores

Your Appointment

The appointment is based on time increments from 15 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the number of vessels needing treatment. You will feel the heat when the laser is in contact with the vessel, but it resolves quickly.

The Results

Immediately after, the treated areas will be red and raised resembling a cat scratch. Bruising, redness, and swelling are common and resolve with time, usually within 5-7 days. Results are dependent on the size of the vessel, your nurse will discuss realistic expectations with you.

Follow Up Care

  • Avoid high-impact activity for 3-5 days.

  • Hemosiderin staining (brown staining) may occur after treatment and usually resolves with time (can take 1-2 years) but, on rare occasions, it may be permanent.

  • Large leg veins may take many months to resolve and should not be re-treated before then.
